June 2026 Concert
Suites from two of the most popular works in classical music—George Bizet’s Carmen and Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird—surround a performance by the brilliant young violinist Nathan Amaral, recipient of the Sphinx Organization’s 2024 Medal Of Excellence Award, for the ESO’s June 7 concert. Amaral plays Alexander Glazunov’s lyrical and deeply moving Violin Concerto in A-Minor. The Suite from Carmen, one of the most tragic love stories of all time, includes seven of the opera’s most well-known themes. Stravinsky’s passionate Suite from The Firebird is based on the composer’s groundbreaking first ballet for Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes. Rounding out the program, Manuel de Falla’s comic Three-Cornered Hat, was also written as ballet music for Diaghilev.
