Most memorable performance with the ESO

It’s really the rehearsals that I remember more than the performances. Nothing has ever equaled my very first rehearsal with the ESO and the feeling, “I’ve come home now.”

Favorite ESO soloist

Randall Scarlata, who sang Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer.

Why I like playing with the ESO

There are so many fine musicians in this orchestra, I have to work very hard to carry my weight. Having to run just to keep up has done wonders for my playing.

Favorite composer or piece

I love playing Dvořák and Mahler, two composers who really know their way around an orchestra.

When I’m not playing with the ESO, I’m…

I play with the Savoyaires, Evanston’s Gilbert & Sullivan light opera company, and I love playing chamber music. I have my own law office and I try as much as I can to be master of my own time.

Something most people don’t know about me

I like to disappear into the forest, live in a tent and sleep on the ground.
