Most memorable performance with the ESO

Joan Tower’s Made in America because the ESO was chosen to be the sole performing orchestra in Illinois and it was being performed throughout the U.S. An ESO member’s friend in Greenwich Village, N.Y. was performing the same piece the same time we did. I like the idea of promoting a new composer’s work.

Favorite ESO soloist

Soprano Michelle Areyzaga, especially in Gwyneth Walker’s The Promised Land

Why I like playing with the ESO

ESO has a great sense of community among its players. Everyone enjoys participating in this marvelous orchestra with Lawrence Eckerling, Illinois’ number one conductor, who has very high standards.

Favorite composer or piece

Richard Strauss and Mahler

When I’m not playing with the ESO, I’m…

Doing volunteer work with the “Art Insights” program at the Art Institute of Chicago; working with the “Reach, Teach, Play” program at Ravinia Music Festival; volunteering at my church and playing tennis and paddle tennis.

Something most people don’t know about me

My conductors have been Antonia Brico and Andor Toth in Boulder, Colorado; Henri Elkan near Philadelphia; Perry Crafton of the Northwest Symphony Orchestra; and Sam Magad of the Northbrook Symphony Orchestra.
